Real Skateboards

Real Skateboards is based in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1990 by ex-Powell Skateboards riders Tommy Guerrero and Jim Thiebaud, with support from skateboarding pioneer and entrepreneur Fausto Vitello, with the aim of taking skating back to the streets – as its names suggest, of keeping it real. Along with brands such as Anti Hero, Krooked and Thunder Trucks, it is part of the Deluxe Distribution family.

Real’s pros are Peter Ramondetta, Dennis Busenitz, JT Aultz, Justin Brock, Max Schaaf, Nick Dompierre, Keith Hufnagel, Ernie Torres, Chima Ferguson, James Hardy and Ishod Wair, plus Jake Donnelly, from Buffalo, New York, who was welcomed to the team in 2013. There is also an Real am team featuring Davis Torgesen, Massimo Cavedoni, Alex Perelson, Kyle Walker and Robbie Brockel.

In 2012, Real released the Pushing series, featuring video parts of its riders going back to their hometowns. It started with a single day of Ramondetta, Hardy, Torres, Donnelly, Torgerson, Brockel, Walker and Alex Midler ‘pushing’ the streets of Chicago and continued with videos including Busenitz in San Francisco, Torres in Colorado, and Ramondetta and Walker in Oklahoma.

The company has also released a number of notable full-length videos over the years including The Real Video in 1993, Non-Fiction (1997), Real to Reel (2001) and Roll Forever (2005). 2011’s Since Day One, edited by Dan Wolfe alongside the entire Real team, was the culmination of years of work, and featured full parts from riders such as Busenitz, Wair and Cavedoni.
